No waste is added unless you enter it — add some for edge cuts, patterns and breakage. Enter the SF per box to get the box count.

Where the numbers come from
- Tiles per square foot: 144 ÷ ((width + joint) × (length + joint)) — 12×24 with ⅛" joints = 0.4923 per SFWorked out from the tile size: each tile takes its own face plus one joint each way. Layout cuts at the edges, patterns (diagonal, herringbone) and breakage are not included — enter waste for those.
- Grout: Joint volume ÷ 385 in³ per 25 lb bag of sanded groutJoint volume per tile = joint × (width + length + joint) × tile thickness. Custom Building Products' Polyblend Plus Sanded chart (25 lb bag) gives the same answer for every bulk tile size and joint width when read this way — 12×12×⅜ at ⅛" = 348 SF, 18×18 = 518, 12×24 = 461 — each about 385 in³ of joint per bag. Mosaics on sheets and other brands differ; check the bag.Source
