Each anchor covers horizontal × vertical spacing of wall. The code check is for anchored masonry veneer — other cladding may follow its maker's spacing.
Extra anchors at openings▾
Masonry veneer: openings over 16" need anchors within 12" of the edge, max 36" apart. Enter the total perimeter of those openings.

Where the numbers come from
- Anchors per SF: One anchor per horizontal × vertical spacing of wall; 144 in² = 1 SFPure geometry: 16" × 16" = 256 in² = 1.78 SF per anchor = 0.5625 anchors per SF; 16" × 24" = 2.67 SF = 0.375 per SF. The count is wall SF × anchors per SF, rounded up — it does not add a row at the wall's edges.
- Masonry veneer limits: Adjustable, W1.7 wire or 22 ga corrugated: max 2.67 SF of wall per anchor; other types 3.5 SF; max 32" horizontal × 25" verticalTMS 402-13 (Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures) as summarized by the Mason Contractors Association of America, for wind up to 40 psf. Wind 40–55 psf: 70% of those areas and 18" max spacing; Seismic Design Category D and up: 75% of the area. Your local code and the anchor maker can be stricter. Stone cladding and other systems may follow their maker's spacing instead.Source
- Around openings: Openings over 16" either way: extra anchors within 12" of the opening, max 36" apart (24" in high wind)The page counts them from the total opening perimeter ÷ spacing, rounded up once for all openings (per opening it can be one or two more).Source
