Stock length
Door opening = door plus the casing on both sides. The piece count reuses offcuts on short walls; "no splices" gives each wall its own pieces.

- Less door openingsperimeter − doors × opening width52' 0" − 1 × 3' 0" = 49' 0"

- Pieces with no splices2 × (length ÷ stock, rounded up) + 2 × (width ÷ stock, rounded up)2 × ( 14' 0" ÷ 16' 0" ) + 2 × ( 12' 0" ÷ 16' 0" ) = 4
Where the numbers come from
- Pieces: Trim length ÷ stock length, rounded up. Baseboard and shoe stop at each door; crown runs the full perimeter. The main count assumes offcuts get used on shorter walls, with scarf joints on walls longer than a piece. The "no splices" count gives each wall its own pieces (doors not taken off), the most you would need. Trim is commonly sold in 8', 12' and 16' lengths; check your store. Miter cuts at corners use a little length — enter waste for that and for cuts around cabinets, stairs and closets.
- Door openings: Doors × opening width, taken off the perimeterUse the width to the outside of the casing on both sides (a 30" door with 2-1/2" casing is about 35"). Openings without a door count too.
